Satyajit Ray reached his audience ranging from the age as early as six to 90 and above. This film provides elements of interest for all age groups. A sarcastic interpretation, as such of the government system and its impact over people's life is one of a kind. I remember as a child, I took interest in the music of the film which is equally entertaining and the charismatic tiger in the treasury. As I grew up, the rhyming verses started to make more sense, and I started to question why the poor were pushed into one big tent right before the big occasion of the Jubilee Celebration? It did not take me too long to link the story with the existing socio-political situation and everything seemed to make more sense.
My perception of Satyajit Roy reached his the film changed with my age. By the time I was making a connection between the film and real life, the dialogues of the film got embedded in my mind. I had no trouble uttering references from the movie in various places. The manner of storytelling and narrative of this movie demonstrates sheer intelligence. The master filmmaker branded this movie as a part of our lives. The movie set a beautiful nationalism in me. I now give it names, I could understand human rights and need for education from a very early age. The film simulated me to ask questions, to my surroundings.
